3D Modeling & Animation Competition

Theme

  •  Checkpoint Cafe:  Create an in-game food truck that might appear at a video game checkpoint, where players and characters can refuel before returning to the action. The truck and any accessories should match the style and atmosphere of the game world they exist in. Submissions should include at least 5 seconds of animation.

Details

  • Competition Format: This is an off-site competition. Participants will work remotely and submit their models for judging.
  • Submission Date:   All files must be received by April 4.  

Submissions

Upload your submission to a google drive (or similar) link and submit your information at the bottom of this page. Submissions must include the following:

  • animated video render with a minimum of 5 seconds of animation 
  • wireframe-on-shader image of  the main character or object
  • original project file (e.g., .blend, .mb, .max) 
  • brief description of the concept and any relevant details.

Rules

  • Participation: Artists must be a current student at a North Carolina high school (public, private or charter)
  • Original Work:  All submitted models must be original creations developed solely by the participant during the competition timeframe.
  • Permitted Resources: Models may incorporate textures created during the timeframe. Pre-made, AI, or third-party assets are not allowed.
  • Team Composition: This is an individual competition; teams are not allowed.

Awards

All awards will be presented on-site at the  Sunday awards presentation.

Total number of awards is dependent on the quantity of submissions. 

Participants will be scored in the following categories:

  • Best Theme Integration: Outstanding use of the announced theme in the design.
  • Technical Excellence: Precision, detail, and complexity in the modeling process.
  • Texturing & Lighting: Exceptional application of textures and lighting to enhance the model.
  • Rigging & Animation: Excellence in rigging and/or animation of the elements of the scene

Judging

  • Judging will be performed by a panel of industry professionals and local business experts.
  • Models will be evaluated based on originality, adherence to the theme, technical skill, creativity, and overall presentation quality.
